This Kanenori Nata Yamanata Machete is designed for use in the forests and mountains. Its unique design allows you to chop underbrush like a machete, or fell trees and prune branches like an axe on mountain trails.
It combines the shape of a traditional Japanese nata and the ken-nata or “sword-type nata”, which allows it to also be used as a large knife for hunting and camping. It can easily cut through rope, fishing line, and much more.
Its 240mm blade is forged with Hitachi Yasugi Shirogami No. 3 carbon steel, which is ideal for maximum sharpness and edge retention. As with all carbon steels, the tradeoff for optimal sharpness is lower rust-resistance, so proper care is required to keep it performing optimally.
The handle is crafted from Japanese oak, and includes a brass bolster and finger-guard for extra safety. It comes with a sheath that attaches to your belt so that you can easily and safely carry it around.
Its single-bevel blade, designed for right-handed use, allows for very precise cutting. As blades ground only on one side can cut extra close, this nata is perfect for pruning branches flush with the trunk of the tree.
After use, the blade should be wiped with a dry cloth and coated with anti-rust oil for storage.
